The Garcia Administration
As President Magsaysay's Vice President, Carlos P. Garcia completed the remaining term of Magsaysay, and he also won in the presidential election in the same year. Garcia won as President. The focus of Garcia's administration was the promotion of economic nationalism . When Carlos P. Garcia was elected as President, The Filipino First Policy was focused on Filipino businessmen over their foreign counterparts by limiting the latter’s business and trading rights in the country. It also was aimed on strengthening the local industry so that local entrepreneurs would benefit more from the economic gains. Garcia was defeated by Diosdado Macapagal during the 1961 elections.
