The Macapagal Administration
Diosdado P. Macapagal sought closer relations with its two immediate neighbors in South east Asia. He made efforts to establish a regional organization called MAPHILINDO (Malaya, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Diosdado called himself "The Poor Boy from Lubao" He gave to the Congress his Agricultural Land Reform Code. It called for the replacement of the share tenancy sytem in agricultural with the agriculturalleasehold system. Macapagal changed the date of Philippine Indpendence, instead of July 4, it became June 12. Diosdado Macapgal tried to stop graft and corruption which is ironic because his daughter Gloria Arroyo is accused of it.
