This book won the Yearling Newbery Award. I got creeped out when I found out that her father did not die from a fire but killed himself because his face became deformed. I wish they would tell more about what happened to Belle Prater.
The book took place in Coal Station, Virginia, 1953. The main characters are Gypsy, the town’s beauty, and Woodrow, Belle Prater’s boy. I like that both Gypsy and Woodrow learn from each other and their mistakes.
